Circles and roles
What a circle is
A circle is a small group of people who trust each other and share one live phrase. Your family. Your parents. Your closest friends. Everyone in the circle sees the same three words at the same moment, and those words change every minute.
Keep circles small and personal. A circle is not a contact list; it’s the set of people who might one day get a panicked call from “you”.
Roles
Admin. The person who created the circle, and anyone they promote. Admins invite new members, verify them, freeze a member whose phone is in doubt, rotate the circle’s security key, and delete the circle. The person a new member proves themselves to is an admin.
Member. Everyone else. Members see the live phrase, answer checks, and can send a SafePhrase Challenge to any other member. Checking someone is never admin-only; anyone in the circle can be suspicious, so anyone in the circle can check.
You can be an admin of one circle and an ordinary member of another. The roles are per circle.
A few working rules
- Name the circle after the people in it, like “Mum & Dad”, so invites read naturally.
- One circle per real group works better than one giant circle. Your parents and your five-a-side team don’t need to share a phrase.
- If you’re the only admin, you can’t leave the circle without handing it over first. A circle always has someone responsible for it.
Creating one
On the Circles tab, tap Start a circle, name it, and you’re the admin. The circle’s secret is created on your phone at that moment, and it never leaves your circle’s devices. Next step: invite the people you trust.
