Why glanceability matters

The moment you need the phrase is mid-call, with a worried voice in your ear. The less you have to do in that moment, the better. Widgets and the watch exist so the phrase is already in front of you.

Home and lock screen widgets

Long-press your home screen, tap the plus, and search for SafePhrase. There are widgets for the home screen and for the lock screen. Each widget can be pointed at a specific circle, so if you’re in several, you can see the one that matters most, or add one widget per circle.

The phrase computes on your phone even when the app is closed, so widgets stay live and correct. On the lock screen the words stay hidden until you’ve unlocked with Face ID, so a phone left on a table shows nothing.

Apple Watch

With Plus or Pro, SafePhrase runs on Apple Watch with a watch-face complication showing the live phrase. Someone calls, you glance at your wrist, you ask for the phrase. You never even reach for your phone.

Setting up: upgrade in the app, then follow Settings, Apple Watch guide, which walks through installing the watch app and adding the complication to a watch face. The complication uses the rectangular slot, which fits all three words.

The watch computes the phrase itself from a copy of the circle key synced securely from your own phone. It keeps working if your phone is out of reach, and the words blur when your wrist drops or the watch is off your arm.

Practise once

Try Practise a call in the app (Settings, or your home screen) before you ever need any of this for real. It simulates a legitimate call and an impostor, so the first time you check a phrase mid-call isn’t the first time it matters.
